If your item(mabinogi gold) has immortal/steady/lucky on it, it is not a true stat like strength or intelligence, it is a charge used in alchemy. Lucky(3) is 3 charges of lucky that will be used only when upgrading with elixers. Item upgrades can fail in several ways and the immortal/steady charges are to protect the item from these failures:
Lose the whole item - prevented by charges of immortal. Revert the item to +0 - prevented by charges of steady. Lose only the elixer and no other effect - has only happend to me going from +0 to +1, so is probably just a "revert the item" failure in disguise, anyone had this happen on an item(mabinogi gold) that was +1 or more.
These two charges should only be used up when a failure is prevented by the charge. Lucky charges are similar to lucky powder from the grocer in that they increase the odds of a successful upgrade. One charge is subtracted at each enchanting. Duno if using both powder and charges at same time further increases odds or not, but there is no choice in the matter of using lucky charges whether you use powder or not.
Anyway the main point is that a failure of the steady stat/charge does not really result in a decrease in item "durability" as the help file seems to indicate what they are attempting to say is it will lose it from previous enchants called endurability. When you succeed in enchanting you will see a message that says something like "Enchanting successful - item endurability is now +1".
The key word here is endurability just another bad translation by 2 different translators we guess. Oh and in case you still have not figured it out lucky/steady/immortal items do not make you more lucky at finding items, increase your accuracy, or make you invincible.
